| | Shovels At The Ready! | | We gathered on the grassless village green. Shovels at the ready, hoes shiny and bright, wheelchairs oiled and beer on ice in the barrel. The idea was to prep the land for grass seed. I should have left the beer in the pub!
I spread everyone out in a line and we began to work our way from one end to the other, hoeing and turning the soil with shovels while the sun beat down and the wind lifted the hair on the back of our necks.
We worked and sang and whistled our way through an hour of scraping and shallow digging.
BEER BREAK suddenly rang out in the air and all utensils hit the ground in unison!
Mad Meg - all tiny feet and hands and wild hair flitted about handing out bottles and talking a mile a minute to her 'spirit guides' who apparently, were criticizing our manual efforts to bring some green to our village green.
Walleyed Tom, of the wandering eyeball and busy hands, engaged himself in searching rather furtively, all the open pockets of the ladies he could creep up on unawares, looking I think, for a bottle opener! He seemed so disappointed when I showed him how to twist the cap off his beer bottle! Oddly, the ladies seemed a little disappointed too! LOL

| YIKES! ...bring out the snow shovels... | | ...one for each hand! We were lulled into spring thinking by the almost balmy weather of the past two days. Bitter cold reality stares us in the face--everything is blanketed with snow. The morning calm is assaulted by the whine of snow blowers and scraping shovels. And here I am whining too....We are supposed to see America at Casino Rama tonight. Fortunately they arrived last night--taking no chances cause Orilla, where Rama is, is smack dab in the snow belt. I have the radio on right now and there are pileups on the major highways and road closures because of drifting snow. And the wind! No sooner has some spots been cleared from the driveway and the wind whips the piled snow back where it came from. Okay, every myLotter out there in the world who wanted snow--give me your address and I'll ship you a cargo load!!! My poor gnome Gobby in my back garden is smothered in the white stuff... | |

| | who shovels the snow in YOUR driveway? | | i think its pretty darn sad that a friend of mine will wake her hubby (as he can sleep almost 2 hours later than her to be up for work) from a dead sleep in the morning ONLY to make him go outside and shovel!.. i mean she says she shouldnt have to becuase she's a woman!!!.. OMG>.i mean.. i shovel us out just as often as my man does!... he tries to be proactive in the evenin sometimes and shovels a bit so its not SO much in the morning, but i do my fair share as well.. why is it so many woman dont shovel?? i KNOW its not that theyre incapable.. is it laziness?? and im not talking about if your a single woman, and have no choice.. but i sometimes jsut do it FOR my hubby cuz he's gotta go out to work and i dont.. when i was younger i used to shovel it for my mom cuz she worked at night and needed to be able to pull in the driveway in th emornin and my dad plowed snow for the state so he'd be gone WELL before it started building up.,. and as the oldest of 3 well it just kinda left me to do it.. but i didnt really mind too much and my mom was always thankful and rewarding..what do you think?? ALL opinions welcome.. | |

| | A boy came by yesterday | | with a shovel. He was looking to clear driveways. Now it has been years since I can remember kids going around doing this. My hubby thanked the kid but sent him on his way. He is going to shovel the drive. Has anyone come by your place? When was the last time you paid a kid to mow the lawn or shovel the drive? | |

| new vegetable Plot | | This is an area that I plan on using for various vegeatbles this year. the area is about 15 feet deep and almsot 20 feet across. So it will be a decent sized area. I have no tiller nor a sod cutter so I have to dig up this lawn area by hand and try to get it weed and grass free. Not easy at my age with bronchial asthma really. but I got a row done today and used the grass from it for another good use. Do you use a tiller or sod cutter for plots like this preparing them?
